My border isn't a physical one, but a literary one and it's represented by this gas lamp (a clue is in the title). One of the many famous people to have lived in Malvern at some point in their life was C.S. Lewis. He came to Malvern in 1911 at the age of 12 to attend Cherbourg Prep. School. Then, before leaving in 1914, he enrolled at Malvern College for about 7 months.

It is said that the gas lamps he saw here in Malvern would later spark his imagination and be included as a focal point in a book he would write. Of course the book I talk about is "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". In the book the gas lamp is one of the first things the children see as they step out of the back of the wardrobe and into the middle of the Western Woods. So here is my border, the border between the world of Narnia and our own.

Luckily after all this time Malvern still has plenty of these gas lamps in full working order. Most of them are along roads or in the town centre, but I chose this one for its remote location, set by itself on the side of the hills. Okay, these lights don't give out as much light as a modern light, but there’s something about the light they do give out. Right now where's that wardrobe, I'm sure it’s around here somewhere.....
